GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Wheeling Jesuit led wire-to-wire in winning and won the 2019 Mountain East Conference Women’s Track & Field Championship on Tuesday.
The Cardinals successfully defended last year’s title by piling up 230 points. West Virginia Wesleyan finished second with 182.5 points and Charleston took third with 155 points. Glenville State took fourth (118), followed by Concord (70) and West Liberty (53.5).
UC began the day with a win in the 400 meters with a time of 46.97 to set a new meet record. West Virginia Wesleyan’s Sydney Pineault then won the first of two events today by taking the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:44.63 to set a meet record. She later scored a win in the 800 and set a meet record in that event with a time of 2:19.53. Pineault also took second in the 5,000 meters behind Wheeling Jesuit’s Kelsey Chambers (18:34.64).
Diana Castillero from Charleston took first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.85. UC then went 1-2 in the 400 meters with Jamaica James setting a meet record with a time of 56.90, followed by her teammate Eve Hines (56.91). The Golden Eagles got another win as Tricht Jocelyn won the 100 with a time of 12.11. She later took the 200 as well with a time of 24.87.
Glenville State’s Victoria Lewis won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.62.
UC finished the day with a win in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:49.44.
Pineault was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the championship for scoring the most points, and was later named the Track Athlete of the Year by a vote of the league’s coaches. Wheeling Jesuit’s Lilly Ritz was named the Freshman of the Year and Anna Massa was selected as the Field Athlete of the Year. Cardinals head coach Ricky Moore was voted as the Coach of the Year.
