St. Thomas Aquinas Takes First Round Lead

DANIELS, W.Va. – St. Thomas Aquinas shot a first round of 290 to take the first round lead at the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Men’s Golf Championship at The Resort at Glade Springs on Monday. 
 
The Spartans were paced by Michael Miranda’s 70, which tied for third in the field with Minwoo Park (Concordia College), Sam Myers (Franklin Pierce), Mike Hoare (Indiana (Pa.)), and Joe Petrin (Le Moyne).  St. Thomas Aquinas’ Harnish Houston shot 72 and Tom Holmes carded a 73 while Shkelqim Kukaj added a 75 to take the lead.
 
West Liberty, Indiana (Pa.), and Franklin Pierce ended the first round in a three-way tie for second with team scores of 291.  Le Moyne College is fifth (292) followed by Roberts Wesleyan (293), Charleston (294), and Mercyhurst (296) round out the top eight.
 
Harison Laskey (Mercyhurst) and Ryan Rucinski (Wilmington (DE)) are tied for first with first round scores of 69.  Taylor Simpson (Franklin Pierce) and Ron Yanoski (Millersville) both carded 71s on the day. 
 
Play continues on the Cobb Course Tuesday morning with the first tee time scheduled for 7:30 a.m.
