Highsmith Named D2CCA National Player Of The Year

ALBANY, N.Y.
-- Wheeling Jesuit's Haywood Highsmith has been recognized by the Division II College Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) as the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year and headlines the All-America teams announced today. Highsmith stands atop the D2CCA Men’s Basketball All-America Teams that were voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Informa on Directors of America (CoSIDA). 

Highsmith was joined on the D2CCA first team by the nation's leading scorer in Concord's Tommy Bolte. Joining that pair on the first team were Justin Pitts (Northwest Missouri State), Emanuel Terry (Lincoln Memorial) and Justin Reyes (St. Thomas Aquinas). 
 

Highsmith led the Cardinals (26-6) to the Mountain East Conference Tournament tle, their third straight NCAA Championship Tournament appearance, and fourth consecu ve 20-plus win campaign this past winter.

The 2018 MEC Player of the Year and Tournament MVP, Highsmith paced the country with 29 “double-dou- bles” while averaging 22.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. The la er mark places him third among the na on’s leaders. Highsmith wound up his career with 1,952 points and 1,251 rebounds while establishing himself as only the second player in program annals to record more than 1,500 points and 1,000 boards.

In addition to leading the country in scoring, CU's Bolte also regularly contributed 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists for the Mountain Lions (17-13). He was a three-time USBWA National Player of the Week to close the season for the Mountain Lions.
