UC Takes Men's Cross Country Title

WHEELING, W.Va.
-- Charleston placed six runners in the top 10 to easily win the 2018 Mountain East Conference Men's Cross Country championship on Saturday morning at Olgebay Resort. 

David Cecchi finished second, followed by Jack Mastandrea was third, Hunter Riffle was fifth, Sergio Garrido was seventh, Job lijtsma took eighth and Liam Mumford was 10th to give Charleston a team total of 25 points. The win marked the first MEC men's cross country title for UC. For the team's efforts, coach Nick Bias was named the MEC Coach of the Year.

Concord was runner-up with 46 points. Jason Weitzel won the race with a time of 27:08 and was later named the MEC Runner of the Year. Samuel Haynes also earned first team All-MEC honors with a sixth-place finish. West Liberty, led by Philip White's fourth-place finish, took third with 81 points. White was also named the league's Freshman of the Year. 

West Virginia Wesleyan took fourth (100), followed by Wheeling Jesuit (151). WJU's Devin Rich managed first team All-MEC honors with a ninth-place finish. Fairmont State was sixth (158), Glenville State was eighth (184), followed by UVa-Wise (194) and Urbana (257).
