WHEELING, W.Va. – Concord placed six runners in the top 15 to propel the Mountain Lions to the 2018 Mountain East Conference Women’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at the Crispin Course at Olgebay Resort.
The Mountain Lions won the title with 46 points, ahead of Charleston’s 58 points. West Virginia Wesleyan was third with 77 points, followed by Wheeling Jesuit (93), Fairmont State (97), West Liberty (126), UVa-Wise (200), Glenville State (218), Urbana (284), and West Virginia State (312).
Wheeling Jesuit’s Lindsay Scheffel led the field after finishing the 6,000-meter race with a time of 25:18. Kasey McNamara of Charleston finished second with a time of 25:30 and took home both Freshman of the Year and Runner of the Year honors.
Concord’s contingent was led by senior Bailey Knowles who was fourth (26:11). The Mountain Lions also had Karleigh Thompson (6
th) earn first team honors by finishing in the top 10. Aidan Payton (11
th), Kenna Knowles (12
th), Taylor Hamm (13
th) rounded out the scoring for Concord and earned second team recognition along with Kaylin Kessinger (15
th).
Also earning first team honors was Jordan Delaney (WJU), Madison Frame (WVWC), Olivia Underwood (UC), Tori Carr (WVWC), Emily Maddow (FSU) and Denise Ruiz (UC).
Concord head coach Mike Cox was selected as the league's Coach of the Year for guiding the Mountain Lions to the title.
