Field Set For 2017 MEC Women's Tennis Championship

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia State has once again earned the top seed for the MEC Women's Tennis Tournament set for this week (Oct. 20-22) at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center in Huntington, W.Va.

The Yellow Jackets completed an undefeated conference regular season for the fifth-straight year to earn the top seed. The University of Charleston is the defending tournament champion and will be seeded second after going 7-1 in MEC play. The Yellow Jackets and Golden Eagles receive a first-round bye and will start play on Saturday. 

West Liberty will be the third seed, and will begin play on Friday afternoon against sixth-seeded UVa-Wise. West Virginia Wesleyan is the four seed, and will take on fifth-seeded Fairmont State on Friday at 11 a.m.

The winner of the Wesleyan/Fairmont State match will advance to take on West Virginia State, while Charleston will get the winner of West Liberty/UVa-Wise.

Quarterfinals (Friday, Oct. 20)

11 a.m.: #4 West Virginia Wesleyan vs. #5 Fairmont State
2 p.m.: #3 West Liberty vs. #6 UVa-Wise

Semifinals Saturday, Oct. 21 
11 a.m.: #1 West Virginia State vs. #4/5 Winner
2 p.m.: #2 Charleston vs. #3/6 Winner
