CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- St. Thomas Aquinas shaved 20 strokes off its first day total to take the lead after the second day of competition at the East/Atlantic Regional at Edgewood Country Club.
The tournament concludes tomorrow with 18 holes. The top three teams advance to the national championships, as well as the top two individuals (not from an advancing team).
All four scoring players went under par for St. Thomas Aquinas as the team shot a toal of 273 for a two-day total of 566. IUP also trimmed 20 shots off its first day total and shot 274 as it sits in the second spot. The Crimson Hawks also also had four players shoot under par. Adelphi is in third (581), with first round leader Le Moyne in fourth (582) and Charlesotn in fifth (588), West Chester in sixth (591) and Wilmington in sixth (592).
IUP's Zack Kempa followed up his first round 68 with a 70 to remain in the individual lead with a score of four-under par 138. Brendan Hunter from St. Thomas Aquinas and Charleston's Jamin Smith are a shot back at 139. Louis Kelly of Adelphi is in fourth with a score of 140, followed by Kurt Brey (Dowling), Jake Nutter (Southern New Hampshire) and Kenneth Sames (IUP) are tied at 141.
