Trio of Cross Country Athletes Named MEC Runners of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Cross Country Runner of the Week awards. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Davis & Elkins’ Jordan Thomas is the MEC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, and Point Park’s Cassondra O’Connor and Frostburg State’s Emily Wishart share MEC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.

Thomas, a senior from Morgantown, West Virginia, placed second out of 120 competitors in the Robert Morris Invitational with a time of 24:30 in the 8K. The Senators finished runner-up in team points, besting Division II Walsh, ranked No. 21, and a pair of Division I programs.

O’Connor, who is a repeat weekly winner, starred again with a seventh-place finish at the Robert Morris Invitational with a personal best time of 21:21.5 in the 6K. Wishart also produced a personal best time in the 5K, which helped her to a fifth-place individual finish at the Shenandoah Twilight Open. Frostburg State finished first among the four teams in the event, with Wishart leading the way.
