MEC Basketball Players of the Week Announced

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan’s Emma Witt and Concord’s Alexis Frazee share the MEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award, while Frostburg State’s Trey Simmons and Wheeling’s Ayden Goll share the MEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.
 
Witt, a senior forward from Staunton, Virginia, scored a game-high 30 points in an 80-71 win over West Liberty. Witt also grabbed 10 rebounds as she posted a double-double to go along with four assists, a block and a steal.
 
Frazee, a junior from guard from Vincent, Ohio, averaged 20.5 points in two games for the Mountain Lions as CU went 1-1 this week. She scored 17 points that included a 5-for-6 showing from three-point range in Concord's 78-64 win at Point Park. She was also the leading scorer at Fairmont State as she netted a season-high 24 points against the nationally ranked Fighting Falcons. She made a career-best six three-pointers on nine attempts. For the week, she added three rebounds per game. 
 
Simmons, a sophomore guard from Gaithersburg, Maryland, scored a season-high 36 points in leading the team to an 80-78 victory over Charleston, including scoring the game-winning basket. He shot 11-of-20 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three and made 10-of-11 free throws. Added 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals, while getting the go-ahead layup with 1.6 seconds left in the game. It was the Bobcats first-ever MBB win against UC.
 
Goll, a redshirt-freshman guard from Milton, Wisconsin, helped the Cardinals finish the first half strong with a 2-0 week against Franciscan and Davis & Elkins. The Redshirt freshman finished with 51 points to lead the team, while adding eight rebounds, 10 assists, five steals. Against Davis & Elkins, he set a career-best with 30 points, while adding four assists and a perfect 11-11 mark from the charity stripe. He would put up 21 points against Franciscan, adding three more free throws, six rebounds, and six assists in the winning effort.
