BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Frostburg State’s Mike Montano is the first MEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week this season, while Wheeling’s Kenzie Dalton is the MEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Montano, a 6-foot-8 forward from Alexandria, Virginia, averaged 29.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game last week. In the two games combined — against Shippensburg and Seton Hill — Montano made 19 of 30 shots from the field, dished out eight assists and collected four steals. He had a double-double in both games, recording 16 rebounds against Shippensburg and pouring in 37 points against Seton Hill.
Dalton, the reigning MEC Defensive Player of the Year, played nearly every minute last week in games against California (Pa.) and Edinboro. Dalton averaged 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. She shot 58.6 percent from the field and 92.3 percent from the free-throw line, recording a double-double against Edinboro and totaling seven steals between the two contests.
