Filipovits, Hobson Named MEC Swimmers of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Swimmer of the Week awards. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Frostburg State’s Sean Filipovits is the MEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Julianne Hobson of Davis & Elkins is the MEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week.

Filipovits, a freshman from Hanover, Pennsylvania, captured victories in a pair of relays and a second-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle. In the 400-meter medley relay, he led off with the backstroke and set a program record with a 59.75-second split. The relay team also set a program record in the event.

Hobson, a junior from Trenton, Ohio, picked up a trio of individual wins: 200 freestyle (2:06.46), 50 butterfly (28.47), and 50 freestyle (25.81). She was also a part of the Senators’ first-place 200 freestyle relay team in a double dual against California (Pa.) and West Virginia Wesleyan.
