BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Liberty’s Ty McGeary has been voted the Mountain East Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Friday.
McGeary was also recognized as the 2023-24 MEC Male Athlete of the Year on Thursday.
A senior from McDonald, Pa., McGeary repeated as the Division II National Champion at 184 pounds, turning in a perfect 33-0 record during the 2023-24 season. He was one of just three NCAA national champions to turn in a perfect record this season. McGeary had 24 bonus-point victories as a senior and was named the Super Region III and National Wrestler of the Year by the NWCA.
At the 2024 NCAA National Championships, McGeary was voted the event’s Most “Outstanding” Wrestler. He was the MEC Champion at 184 pounds and was honored as the 2023-24 MEC Wrestler of the Year following the season.
For his career, McGeary has a 97-6 overall record with three All-America accolades.
In the classroom, McGeary has a 3.69 grade-point average as a Cyber Security major at West Liberty University.
The MEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
