CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston softball team earned the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic Region and will host the Atlantic Region II bracket beginning on Thursday afternoon.
 
The third-seeded Golden Eagles will take on sixth-seeded Bloomsburg at noon, followed by second-seeded West Chester against seventh-seeded Gannon at 2:30 p.m. The four-team double elimination tournament will continue on Friday and Saturday with the champion advancing to the Super Regional next week.
 
Top-seeded East Stroudsburg will host the top half of the Atlantic Region bracket. The action at ESU gets underway with the top-seeded Warriors taking on eighth-seeded Bowie State at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by fourth-seeded Kutztown against fifth-seeded Shippensburg at 1:30 p.m.
 
Charleston ranks ninth in the nation and enters this week’s NCAA Tournament on a five-game winning streak after winning the MEC Softball Championship last weekend in Troutville, Virginia. Last week when the MEC announced its postseason awards, seven Golden Eagles earned All-MEC first team honors, including catcher Hannah Meyer, first baseman Allysa Lake, shortstop Hannah Rose, designated player Bella Andujar, outfielder Alli Rubal, and pitchers Chloe Elliott and Brianna McCown. Rose was named the MEC Player of the Year, while McCown brought home Pitcher of the Year accolades.
 
UC head coach Michelle Frew was also named the MEC Softball Coach of the Year.
