BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia State's Zach Pate's somersault flip into the end zone on a two-point conversion against Frostburg State has been voted as the 2019-20 Mountain East Conference Play of the Year. The MEC Play of the Year was selected by a combination of a fan vote conducted via social media, conference administrators and the league office.
Pate's flip came after WVSU's first touchdown of the year in the season-opener against Frostburg State. The play was viewed over 5,600 times on the various social media platforms and led all other plays in social media engagement (likes, retweets, views, comments, etc.)
That play finished narrowly ahead of West Virginia Wesleyan's Luca Falconieri's 30-yard goal that saw him chest the ball down and then drill a volley into the side netting. Frostburg State's Brooke Shehade's left-footed bending game-winner in overtime and Concord's Yasmin Mosby's game-winner from 30 yards out in the MEC Tournament were also among the most viewed plays on social media over the last week.
