BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Notre Dame College's Jaleel McLaughlin has been selected as the Mountain East Conference Male Athlete of the Year for 2019-20.
McLaughlin, the MEC Offensive Player of the Year for a second-straight season, led the nation in rushing yards (2,316), touchdowns (33) and all-purpose yards (2,526). He helped lead the Falcons to a 12-2 record, a second-straight MEC football title and an appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
He had 12 games with over 100 yards, including four game over 200 yards, and scored multiple rushing touchdowns in nine. He was a consensus All-American earning the honor from D2CCA, AFCA, D2Football.com and Don Hansen Football Gazette, and D2Football.com's Offensive Player of the Year. He was also a runner-up for the Harlon Hill Trophy given to the best player in NCAA Division II.
In just 28 career games, McLaughlin is already the MEC career leader in rushing with 4,737 yards and 100-yard rushing games with 24. He is also second with career rushing touchdowns (48) and third in all-purpose yards (5,225).
McLaughlin is the first sophomore to win the award and is the second-straight student-athlete from Notre Dame to be named MEC Male Athlete of the Year.
The MEC Male Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
