Become An MEC Official
Kim Vieira, a 2005 inductee into the National Soccer Hall of Fame, has been hired by the Mountain East Conference to serve as the MEC’s first Supervisor of Soccer Officials. A member of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NISOA) since 1984, he will be responsible for selecting, assigning and evaluating all officials for every match hosted by an MEC member school in Men’s and Women’s Soccer.
Vieira brings a vast level of officiating and administrative experience to his new position. A highly-regarded official who has worked national championship matches at the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA levels, he also serves as Coordinator of Soccer Officials for several other collegiate leagues: Ohio Valley Conference (NCAA Division I), Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA Division II), Great Lakes Valley Conference (NCAA Division II), Great Midwestern Athletic Conference (NCAA Division II), Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA Division III), Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (NAIA) and the Crossroads League (NAIA).
Vieira is a graduate of Indiana University, where he played for Hall of Fame coach Jerry Yeagley. After serving as an assistant coach with Yeagley during the 1975-76 season, he spent 20 years as a men’s and women’s collegiate soccer coach before turning his focus to officiating. Vieira has officiated at every level of NCAA and NAIA soccer, including stints in the Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big 12, Atlantic 10, Horizon League and Summit League.
Actively involved in leadership roles with the NISOA over the years, Vieira has received numerous honors for his performance and leadership with that organization. He was an NISOA Distinguished Service Award winner in 1987 and 2002 and has helped establish new NISOA chapters in Iowa and Ohio. He will immediately begin his duties with the MEC.
