Jonathan Griffin II, a former Assistant Athletic Director and Media Relations professional in collegiate athletics, joined the Mountain East Conference staff as the Director of Membership Services & Operations during the spring of 2022.

“We are very pleased to bring someone with such an outstanding array of talents and capabilities by adding Jonathan to our staff,” said Amos. “In addition to his skills, we are adding a new staff member with a strong knowledge of the conference and its membership. I have every confidence that Jonathan will provide outstanding service to the MEC’s colleges and universities.”

In his role with the MEC, Griffin will provide a wide range of leadership to the MEC membership; including championship coordination and event management, budgeting, accounting and fiscal management duties, as well as serving as conference liaison/administrator for assigned MEC championship sports.

Griffin will additionally manage internal operations for the conference office and will provide support to MEC communications and corporate engagement efforts.

Griffin also serves as a Creative Director and Graphic Designer at Ascent Global Innovations (AGI), an engineering firm in Clarksburg, West Virginia. In his role at AGI, Griffin led efforts to build, design and update the company’s website, as well as provides graphic designs for numerous customers in relation to government work throughout a trio of states.

Prior to AGI, Griffin served in several roles at MEC-member institution Glenville State University, most recently as the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations in 2021. He spent over a decade administering and promoting the Blue and Gray in a tenure that began in September 2009.

It is truly one of the best NCAA Division II conferences in the country and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the league and our member institutions,”  said Griffin. “I would like to thank Commissioner Amos for this great opportunity.”

His role at GSU included event management, statistics and website maintenance for the athletics department. He also revamped the department's social media presence and provided graphic design work for all department graphics, posters, brochures, media guides and marketing materials. Additionally, Griffin took a lead role in Glenville State’s business sponsorship program to create advertising revenue for the Department of Athletics.

He also led the department’s communications and marketing efforts for GSU’s 18 intercollegiate sports.

Griffin played a key supporting role as Glenville State hosted several conference and regional championships during his tenure, including the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Atlantic Region Championship in 2014, 2020 and 2022. He also helped to promote the women’s basketball team’s run to a national championship this past winter in an interim capacity.

Griffin served on several national and regional committees while at GSU, including the D2SIDA Women’s Basketball Poll, Women’s Golf RAC committee (2011-2014) and CoSIDA.

Early in his GSU tenure, Griffin served as assistant strength and conditioning coordinator, head women’s golf coach and intramurals director in addition to his responsibilities in media relations.

Griffin graduated in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from then Glenville State College, where he was a four-year member of the Pioneer football team as a tight end.

Griffin currently resides in Clarksburg with his wife Jessica and the couple’s son Jasiah.
