FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The 2026 Mountain East Conference Volleyball Championship will open on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and run through Friday, Nov. 13, at Fairmont State University’s Feaster Center. With the quarterfinal round occurring on Veterans Day, the MEC will acknowledge and honor military veterans during each of the four quarterfinal contests.
The championship moves up one day from its originally scheduled dates of Thursday, Nov. 12, through Saturday, Nov. 14. The adjustment resolves a facility availability conflict at Fairmont State, which earned hosting rights under the MEC’s championship policies and procedures.
The conflict stems directly from calendar changes created by the 2026 NCAA Division II Fall Festival, which will host six national championships, including women’s volleyball, Dec. 3-5 in Kansas City, Mo. The festival calendar moves the Division II volleyball postseason up by a week, coinciding with the opening week of the basketball season and contracted conference challenges events.
“While we strongly prefer to maintain our traditional championship dates, the impacts of the NCAA Division II Fall Festival pushing conference volleyball championship week into an already overscheduled weekend left us with very little choice but to make this move,” said MEC Commissioner Reid Amos. “The Mountain East Conference has always prioritized high-quality, memorable championship events focused first and foremost on our student-athletes. This year’s event will be no different.”
“There are benefits within this necessary move: volleyball will have virtually no contests in other sports at MEC schools competing with Women’s Volleyball’s quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, and the championship match will be played on a day with far fewer games in other sports than this particular Saturday will have,” Amos added. “Opening on Veterans Day also gives us the opportunity to honor the men and women who have served our nation, and we hope the holiday allows more fans to join us. We look forward to a great MEC Championship event at Fairmont State.”
The champion earns the MEC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship. The NCAA tournament field to be revealed Sunday, Nov. 15 on NCAA.com.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors (65 and up) and youth (12 and under), available online through Championship Central. Every match will be streamed live free of charge on MountainEast.TV (DVR archives require a subscription).
