BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Cross Country Runner of the Week awards. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.
University of Charleston’s Harry Witt was named the MEC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week after winning the West Liberty Invitational. The freshman from New Zealand won the 6,000-meter event in a time of 18:54.1, beating teammate Jules Geffroy-Remot by six seconds. UC topped West Liberty for first place in the team results.
Cassondra’s O’Connor was named the MEC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week after taking the top spot in the West Liberty Invitational. The redshirt sophomore from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania finished the 5,000-meter race in 18:03.8, beating the field by 15 seconds. With O’Connor’s help, Point Park finished first in the team results. O’Connor is the MEC’s reigning Runner of the Year, and also captured Freshman of the Year honors last season.
