WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Nationally ranked Glenville State successfully defended its team title Saturday afternoon, outlasting West Liberty to capture the 2025 MEC Wrestling Championship held here inside ASRC.
The Pioneers, ranked No. 2 in the most recent National Wresting Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, repeated as the conference tournament champions a year after winning the program’s first team title. Glenville State qualified a wrestler in all 10 championship matches, winning the six titles: 125 pounds, 157, 165, 174, 197, and 285/Heavyweight.
Host West Liberty finished runner-up with 133.5 points, while Frostburg State placed third with 126.0 points. The full standings are below.
In addition to its team finish, Fairmont State’s Colton Stoneking was presented with the MEC Most Outstanding Wrestler trophy, as voted by the league’s head coaches. Stoneking defeated Glenville State’s Gavin Quiocho, who won the MEC individual title at 133 pounds in 2024.
Five different programs celebrated an individual champion at Saturday’s event: Glenville State, Frostburg State, Fairmont State, Salem, and West Liberty.
In addition to Stoneking’s triumph for Fairmont State, Thierno Diallo gave Frostburg State its only individual champion, defeating Glenville State’s Hunter Ross at 133 pounds. Salem’s Sean Johnson knocked off GSU’s Caleb Brooks in the final at 149 pounds. Ty McGeary, a two-time national champion and the reigning Division II National Wrestler of the Year, took home the title at 184 pounds for WLU.
