BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Concord’s Boubacar Djigo has been named the MEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Frostburg State’s Mandy Roman has been named the MEC Women’s Player of the Week.
Djigo, a 6-foot-8 junior forward from Cleveland, Ohio, scored 24 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in a narrow loss to Virginia Union 65-58. He went 11-for-15 from the floor and added two blocks as he tallied the second recorded 20-20 game in program history, the first since the 2014-15 season. Djigo's 24 points were a career-high, and his 20 rebounds were two shy of the program record he set last season.
Roman, a red-shirt sophomore from Enola, Pennsylvania helped the Bobcat’s earn a 69-61 win over University of District of Columbia. She scored 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. She set a career-high with five offensive rebounds, as she also went 7-of-8 at the free throw line.
