Halling, Woyan Shared MEC Wrestler of the Week Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Wrestler of the Week awards. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Frostburg State’s Tanner Halling and Fairmont State’s Josh Woyan — both freshmen — share the MEC Wrestler of the Week honors. Halling was also recognized with a weekly honor on Nov. 3.

Halling, who is from Rohrersville, Maryland, defeated Gannon’s Jerry Echavarria in an 8-4 decision. Echavarria is the current No. 1 in the 133-pound weight class, according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Halling cracked the NWCA rankings at No. 10 last week, prior to defeating Echavarria.

Woyan, who is from Point Pleasant, West Virginia, won both of his matches over the weekend — against Salem and Gannon. He defeated Salem’s Dylan Knight by technical fall, 19-4, and then beat No. 5 Gannon’s Dillon Walker in overtime, 4-1. In last week’s NWCA rankings, Walker was ranked No. 7 in the 174-pound weight class.
