Charleston Repeats as MEC Men's Soccer Tournament Champion

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Martin Echarren broke a tie in the 61st minute to help the University of Charleston to a 2-1 win against Concord in the 2025 Mountain East Conference Men’s Soccer Championship final Sunday at Welch Athletic Complex.

Echarren, the MEC Freshman of the Year, found the ball on his right foot directly in front of the goal and poked the ball into the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner. Echarren, who is from Argentina, scored for the eighth time this season.

The tournament title is the eighth in a row for the Golden Eagles, which entered the MEC final unbeaten on the season and ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.

UC (16-0-4) struck early in Sunday’s final, a goal in the 9th minute by Jack Allan, his second of the season. The Golden Eagles had allowed only four goals this season, the nation’s stingiest, and held a 1-0 lead within the first 10 minutes against second-seeded Concord (13-4-3). But the Mountain Lions found the equalizer early in the second half on a goal by Dominique Malhomme.

The rematch of the 2024 tournament final was dead-locked for almost eight minutes before Echarren tallied the winner.

For the game, Charleston out-shot Concord, 10-7. Mountain Lions keeper Nathan Scargill made five saves, while the Golden Eagles’ Konstantino Parisis made one save and allowed his fourth goal of the season.

Charleston, which advanced to the NCAA Division II national championship last season, earns the MEC’s automatic qualifying berth. The DII Men’s Soccer Selection Show is set for Monday at 7 p.m., and will be live-streamed on NCAA.com First-round action is set for Friday, Nov. 21.
