BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Volleyball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
West Virginia State’s Nicole Gartner Custodio is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Concord’s Allie Davis is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week. This is Davis’ second weekly honor this season.
Custodio, a senior from Brazil, made history at the net for West Virginia State. She set an MEC and school record with an .882 attack percentage in a sweep of Salem, with 15 kills in 17 total attempts. She also added six total blocks (three solo, three assisted). For the week, she had 21 kills on 31 attempts — a .645 attack percentage.
Davis, a junior from Jonesborough, Tennessee, averaged 5.16 digs per set over 12 sets of action during the Mountain Lions’ 2-1 week. She recorded 23 digs in a four-set loss to Wheeling, and then added 21 digs in a four-set win against West Liberty. For the season, Davis is second in the MEC in total digs and digs per set.
