BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - Following the second round of play at the Mountain East Conference Spring Invitational at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, the Mountain East Conference today unveiled its 2023-24 postseason awards and all-conference teams for women’s golf.
The All-MEC women’s golf team is selected based on individual performances by players during five rounds of MEC sponsored play during the 2023-24 season. The first three rounds of MEC play took place from Oct. 2-4 at Avalon Golf and Country Club in Warren, Ohio during the 2023 MEC Championships back in the fall. The final two rounds were played over the last two days at Hannastown Golf Club during the 2024 MEC Spring Invitational.
Glenville State’s Hailey Hendershott earned MEC Player of the Year recognition with an average score of 75.4 during the five rounds of MEC sponsored play. Hendershott was joined on the All-MEC first team by teammates Lexis Fickel and Kendall Wall, along with the Charleston duo of Iciar Canalejo and Lucia Martin. Davis & Elkins’ Marina Noti was also honored as a member of the first team.
Martin earned MEC Freshman of the Year accolades with a round score of 77.2.
The All-MEC second team included three players from Charleston (Beatrice Dietz, Ines Fernandez and Gabrielle Harrison) and two from Glenville State (Mackenzie Czapla and Lizzie Bickar). Fairmont State’s Emerson Simons and D&E’s Gadea Melgarejo rounded out the All-MEC second team.
Five MEC standouts also earned MEC honorable mention in 2023-24, including Concord’s Mary Denny, Notre Dame’s Erin Frey and Catalina Uribe, and West Liberty’s Erin Shockey and Alexis Ramby.
UC head coach Will Johnson was named the 2023-24 MEC Coach of the Year.
Glenville State (+38) took first place at this week’s MEC Spring Invitational with a 30-shot advantage over Charleston (+68) in second place. Fairmont State finished in third-place (+135).
Hendershott took medalist honors at the event with a 36-hole score of three-over par (+3) for the tournament. Wall (+8) finished in second place, followed by Martin (+9), Fickel (+13) and Czapla (+14).
