BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference today announced its Week 6 Football Players of the Week.
The MEC Football Player of the Week awards are presented by
The Health Plan.
Notre Dame College running back Idris Lawrence was honored as the Week 6 Offensive Player of the Week, while Fairmont State defensive back Isaiah Powell-Major was voted the Defensive Player of the Week. West Liberty kicker Justin Kaplan is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Lawrence, a junior running back from Pickerington, Ohio, rushed for a career-high 182 yards as Notre Dame defeated West Virginia State on Saturday afternoon. He averaged 5.5 yards per carry and also scored two fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns to help Notre Dame tie and take the lead in the game. Lawrence recorded a bulk of his production in the first half with 69 rushing yards in the first quarter and 52 in the second quarter.
Powell-Major, a sophomore defensive back from Glen Burnie, Md., set a school record with a 97-yard interception return for a touchdown in Thursday’s win over Concord. Powell-Major also added a second interception later in the game that stalled a CU drive deep in FSU territory. In addition, Powell-Major added four tackles, two pass break-ups and a forced fumble in the win over Concord.
Kaplan, a senior from San Diego, Calif., connected on field goals of 32- and 42-yards as West Liberty held on for a 48-40 win over Glenville State on Saturday. The 42-yard field goal is a new season high as Kaplan is now 3-of-4 on field goal attempts of 30+ yards this season.
