UC Wins 2022 Men's Cross Country Championship

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Charleston placed six runners in the top 10 at the Mountain East Conference Men’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday and repeated as champion in 2022.
 
Charleston’s team performance was highlighted by a trio of top five finishes from Joao Pereira (3rd), Thomas Termote (4th) and Alejandro Abellaneda (5th). Joining that trio on the All-MEC first team were teammates Zane Chalker in eighth, Matthys Bourse in ninth and Emmanuel Yego in 10th.
 
Concord’s Issac Prather was Saturday’s individual champion for the second-consecutive year with a time of 25:36.82. He was joined on the All-MEC first team by teammate Preston Prather in sixth. The final two spots on the All-MEC first team were occupied by Emeric Arnaud of Davis & Elkins (finished 2nd) and Darrell DeMoss of Fairmont State (finished 7th). DeMoss was also recognized as the MEC Freshman of the Year.
 
In addition to his first-place finish in the 8k race, Concord’s Issac Prather was also voted the MEC Runner of the Year in 2022. Charleston head coach Nick Bias was named the men’s cross country coach of the year.
 
Following UC (29 points) in the final men’s team standings were Concord (55), Davis & Elkins (70), West Liberty (124) and West Virginia Wesleyan (147) to round out the top five.
