MEC Announces Week 3 Football Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Tyson Bagent (Shepherd), Kahzin Daniels (Charleston), Buster Henderson (UVa-Wise) and Lyrics Klugh (Fairmont State) have earned Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors for their play in the third week of the season.

Bagent, a freshman from Martinsburg, W.Va., is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week after connecting on 32-of-41 passes for 378 yards as Shepherd downed Glenville State, 41-21. He threw for three scores and rushed for another in the win over the Pioneers. Bagent leads the country in passing yards per game (448) and total offense (454) through three weeks of the season.
 
Charleston's Daniels and UVa-Wise's Henderson share Defensive Player of the Week honors for their roles in wins last week. Daniels was in on 10 stops last week as the Golden Eagles held West Liberty to -35 yards rushing and 157 yards of total offense, and had two solo sacks and assisted on another two. Henderson helped stifle Concord's offense with 4.5 tackles for a loss in the game (four solo), and notched seven total tackles.

Klugh, a senior from Lyman, S.C., is the Special Teams Player of the Week for a second-straight week as the Falcons got past West Virginia Wesleyan, 44-41. Klugh returned a punt for a touchdown for the second time in as many games, taking this one back 68 yards in the third quarter. He finished the game with 164 all-purpose yards.

Offense: Marvelle Ross (NDC) caught 13 passes for 231 yards with a pair of touchdowns in a 33-31 win over West Virginia State ... Tanner Bernard (WISE) completed 24-of-30 for 295 yards and three TDs in his first start ... Takwan Crews-Naylor had 302 yards passing and four touchdowns to lead Fairmont State past West Virginia Wesleyan ... Kahliq Muhammad (UU) had seven catches for 168 yards and two TDs ... Jimmy Wheeler (UC) had 30 carries for 125 yards and one touchdown in a 24-10 win over West Liberty.
Defense: Joshua Ojo (WLU) had two picks, broke up two others and blocked a field goal in a loss against Charleston ... Vincent Ellis (NDC) had five tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, and produced a sack in the waning seconds to help seal the win against West Virginia State ... Jerry Iweh (FSU) had a team-high 10 tackles and an interception in a win over West Virginia Wesleyan ... Mikal Toliver (UU) had three sacks on Thursday night ... Zach Malone (CU) had 14 tackles against UVa-Wise ... DeJuan Neal (SU) had five tackles and one interception in a win over Glenville State.
Special Teams: Erik Ware (UU) had two field goals to help the Blue Knights earn a non-conference win over Lake Erie ... Kobe Vinegar (WVWC) returned a blocked field goal 80 yards to tie the game at 41-41 against Fairmont State ... D'Niyae Morris (NDC) blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown and had three special teams tackles for the Falcons ... Christian Morris (WLU) punted eight times for a 41.6 yard average.
