Warner Named MEC Women's Sports Coach Of The Year

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan's Steve Warner has been named the Mountain East Conference Women's Sports Coach of the Year for 2016-17.

Warner directed the Bobcats to a 51-10 record that included the MEC South Division title. Wesleyan went on to win its second-straight MEC Tournament title and earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Atlantic Region. The Bobcats went on to win the Atlantic Region title on the road at top-seeded West Chester to advance to the Division II College World Series for the first time in program history. The Bobcats went 2-2 in the national tournament, including a win over West Florida at the that gave Warner 1,000 victories for his career. 

Wesleyan was ranked in the top 15 for the entire season, and the team's final No. 3 ranking is the highest in program history.


The MEC Women's Sports Coach of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
