Cavs Take MEC Men's Golf Title

DANIELS, W.Va. -- UVa-Wise posted a tournament-best 297 on the final 18 holes to win the 2016 MEC Men's Golf title on Wednesday afternoon at Glade Springs Resort.

The Cavs sat in fifth place after two rounds, but were just six shots back. Alex Arnold shot a 73 on the final day, Nick England came through with a 74, and Jacob Smith and Andrew Johnson carded matching 75s to give UVa-Wise the title with a final score of 905.

Charleston finished second after shooting 306 in the final round to finish just three shots behind the Cavs at 908. West Liberty was third with 918.

Arnold tied with Wheeling Jesuit's Nolan Tisch for medalist honors after 54 holes after both finished with 222 (+6). Tisch was crowned medalist after birdieing the par five 18th hole in the playoff.

With the win, UVa-Wise earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Regional next May that will be played at Glade Springs.
