MEC Announces Women's Soccer Awards

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan, the Mountain East Conference regular season champion and the No. 11 team in the country, swept the women's soccer top individual awards, the league announced Wednesday. Colette Biondi is the Offensive Player of the Year, Rachel Ritchey is the Defensive Player of the Year, Jane Schleicher is the Freshman of the Year and Patrick Holguin in the Coach of the Year. 

Biondi, a forward from Trafford, Pa., leads the Bobcats and the MEC with nine goals this year. The senior came up big for WVWC with a league-best six game-winning scores.

Ritchey, a senior defender from Pittsburgh, Pa., leads a defensive back line that leads the nation in shutouts with 16 in 18 games, and has has conceded just two goals all year. Ritchey also stepped forward to score three goals and two assists for the Bobcats.

Schleicher, a freshman from Pittsburgh, Pa., led all MEC freshmen with 13 points on four goals and five assists. She had a point in eight of WVWC's 18 games in 2015.

Holguin earns MEC Coach of the Year honors for the second time in three seasons after directing the Bobcats to a 16-0-2 overall regular season record, and a 14-0-2 mark in conference play. The Bobcats are currently ranked 11th in the country and are second in the most recent NCAA Atlantic Region rankings.

In addition to the individual honors, the league also announced the All-MEC teams. Notre Dame placed four players on the first team, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan and Charleston with three each. Concord, Shepherd and West Liberty each had one player earn first team honors.

The All-MEC teams are selected by a vote of the league's coaches.
