DANIELS, W.Va.
-- St. Thomas Aquinas overcame rainy conditions on the second day of the 2017 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Tournament and shot a tournament-best 296 to take the tournament lead.

Conditions were wet, but not windy, for the second round, which helped improve scoring by over a stroke compared to the first round.

St. Thomas Aquinas had a pair of players card 73s (Michael Frizalone, Brendan Hunter), and Michael Miranda added a 74 to go with Hamish Houston's 76. The Spartans two-day total stands at 597.

Dominican is just one shot back at 598 after carding a solid 298. Leonard Lee shot a one-under 71 to help lead the Chargers. Le Moyne also shot 298 and is in third at 602. John Clare broke par with a two-under 70 for the Dolphins. Wilmington (604), Indiana (606) and Mercyhurst (608) and California (610) and Franklin Pierce (612) round out the top eight.

Mercyhurst's Chris Kupniewski remains in the individual lead at two-under 142. He has a four-shot lead over Le Moyne's Clare, Dominican's Hunter Wescott and Virginia Union's Allen Day. Day had the round of the tournament shooting a five-under 67 on Tuesday.

Play finishes on the Cobb Course tomorrow morning with the first tee time scheduled for 7:30 a.m.
