UC Holds On To Second Round Lead

DANIELS, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston matched its first round total of 297 and holds nine-shot lead heading into the final round of the Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Championship.

Justin Westveer shot an even par 72 to lead the Golden Eagles on day two, and Ritwik Jain followed up his 71 yesterday with a 75 on Tuesday. Lewis Fenn added carded a 74 and Mason Weese added a 76 to round out the scoring for UC. The Golden Eagles have a two-day total of 594. 

West Liberty shot the best round of the day with a 295 and is in second place at 603. Micharl Rogers was shot a one-under 71 to lead the Hilltoppers. Sean Trapp and Joey Cilone each shot 73, and Cory Hoshor turned in a 78.

West Virginia Wesleyan surged into third place after shooting a 299 for a two-day total of 609. Nick West turned in the best round of the tournament so far with three-under 69. Concord (615), Shepherd (617) and Urbana (636) rounded out the top six and advance to the final round of play tomorrow.

Concord's Brett Laxton continues to lead the tournament at three-under par after a second round score of 70 and a two-day total of 141. He leads a trio of players by five strokes at 146: Fenn, Trapp and Jain. 

Wheeling Jesuit's Eric Dargis (148), UVa-Wise's Bryce Varner (154) and Fairmont State's Baily Mohr (158) also advance to the final round as the top three individuals from non-advancing schools.
