Day 1: MEC Baseball Tournament

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Shepherd, West Virginia State and Notre Dame all claimed victories on the first day of the Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament at Epling Stadium.

Shepherd pounded out 19 hits in a 14-10 win over Concord, while West Virginia State came away with a 6-2 win over West Liberty. Notre Dame cruised to a 22-4 win over Glenville State.

Concord will play West Liberty tomorrow at 11 a.m., Shepherd will take on Glenville State at 3 p.m., and West Virginia State will play Notre Dame at 7 p.m.

Game One: Shepherd 14, Concord 10 | Final Stats
Shepherd and Concord combined for 36 hits and 24 runs, but it was the Rams coming out on top in a 14-10 decision over the Mountain Lions in the first game of the MEC Tournament.

SU's Jacob Carney went 5-for-5 at the plate and scored four times at the top of the Rams order. Tre Porter went 3-for-5 with a home run, and Ron Farley added three hits and two RBI as well for Shepherd. Jamie Driver pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory.

Chad Frazier went 4-for-6 to lead the CU offense. Jordan Clark had three hits and rove in three, and Paul Williams also had thee hits. Damon Frazier took the loss in relief for the Mountain Lions pitching five innings and giving up  six runs (three earned). 

Game Two: West Virginia State 6, West Liberty 2 | Final Stats
Dustin Kincaid went eight strong innings to help pitch West Virginia State past West Liberty, 6-2, in the second game of the MEC Baseball Tournament.

Kincaid (7-1) gave up two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Curtis Johnson came on and pitched a clean ninth to close things out for the Yellow Jackets.

Trenton Porter went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Yellow Jackets on offense. Jamison Jones went 3-for-5 and Jacob Frantz scored twice.

Greg Stagani (6-5) was dealt the loss pitching seven innings giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits. Justice Jackson had two hits for the Hilltoppers. 

Game Three: Notre Dame 22, Glenville State 4 | Final Stats
Glenville State took an early 3-0 lead, but Notre Dame exploded for seven runs in the fifth, nine in the sixth and six more in the eighth to roll to a 22-4 win over the Pioneers.

Julio Rosales went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, and Ross Barker drove in four RBI for the Falcons. Josh Armbruster picked up the win going seven innings giving up four runs on six hits. 

Justin Lewis went 3-for-3 and Lance Gilbert drove in three for the Pioneers. Wesley Stauffer took the loss going 4.1 innings giving up five runs on seven hits.
