TROUTVILLE, Va. -- The University of Charleston remained unbeaten on the second day of the MEC Softball Tournament, and will take on a familiar foe in West Virginia Wesleyan for the conference championship.

UC and WVWC will play tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Botetourt Sports Complex. The game was moved up due to impending weather in the area.

The Golden Eagles advanced to the championship game with a 1-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan behind a one-hit effort from Alli Burdette. Burdette was actually one out away from a no-hitter, but Krista Waggoner broke up the bid with a single to left center. WVWC's Alyssa Shawgo had a strong pitching performance for the Bobcats in just her fourth appearance of the season giving up a single unearned run in the bottom of the sixth. UC's Kelly Browning provided the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to score Rachelle Toppings who reached earlier in the inning on an error.

UVa-Wise fought off elimination twice with wins over Wheeling Jesuit and Concord earlier in the day. Alexa Hernandez had two hits for the Cavs against the Cardinals, and then Shannon Bennett sparked the offense with three hits against the Mountain Lions. Erika McLaughlin went 2-for-2 with three RBI and Olivia Cleary hit a three-run home run against the Mountain Lions.

In the final game of the day, West Virginia Wesleyan advanced to Sunday with a 11-9 win over the Cavaliers. UVa-Wise jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Bobcats responded with four of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Cavs pulled even in the fourth, but WVWC scored one in the bottom of the inning and broke the game open with six in the fifth to grab a 11-4 lead. UVa-Wise had one more rally in it pushing across five runs in the top of the sixth, but the Bobcats were able to hold on for the victory.

Brooklyn Waddell went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, and Tori Pogue added three hits. Anna Eggleston and Olivia Gore each had two RBI for the Bobcats. Sayaka Foley got the win for WVWC, while Alyssa Shawgo pitched a perfect seventh to pick up the save.

For UVa-Wise, Alexa Hernandez went 2-for-2 and Emily Kale hit a two-run home run.
