TROUTVILLE, Va. -- The top two seeds in the South Division, Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan, went unbeaten on the first day of action at the 2016 Mountain East Conference Tournament at the Botetourt Sports Complex.

UC and West Virginia Wesleyan will meet for the fifth time this season tomorrow at 2:30 in the championship bracket semifinals.

UC had to rally for a 3-2 win against Notre Dame, and then overcame an early deficit in a 6-3 win against Concord. Trailing 2-1 against NDC in the fifth, Katelyn Hamilton hit an RBI double, and Laura Ashlock followed with an RBI single to left to push across the winning run. Against Concord, the Golden Eagles again trailed by a run in the fifth, but managed a four-spot in the inning on the strength of Allison Evans' two-run double to center to propel them to a 6-3 win over the Mountain Lions.

West Virginia Wesleyan cruised to an 8-0 win over Fairmont State in five innings in its first game. Anna Eggleston, Olivia Gore and Ashley Hurey each had two hits while Hannah Vet pitched the shutout. In the second game, Vet carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning to lift the Bobcats to a 3-0 win over UVa-Wise. WVWC did all its damage in the third inning scoring three runs in the inning. Hurey led the inning off with a walk, and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Eggleston added an RBI on a groundout and Krista Waggoner scored a run on a sacrifice fly. That would be all Vet would need as she allowed just two hits against the Cavs.

After falling to Concord in the opening game, Wheeling Jesuit managed a 3-2 win on Mallory Chapman's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th to stay alive and eliminate Notre Dame. Shepherd dropped its opener to UVa-Wise, 8-1, but bounced back for a 3-1 win to eliminate Fairmont State. 

Tomorrow's action begins tomorrow at noon with the consolation bracket at noon with the Cardinals against UVa-Wise and Shepherd against Concord. The winner's bracket continues at 2:30 with Charleston against West Virginia Wesleyan.
