MEC Volleyball Semifinals Recap

#3 Fairmont State 3, Charleston 0 | Final Stats
WHEELING, W.Va.
-- Fairmont State advanced to the MEC Volleyball Tournament Championship game with a 3-0 win over Charleston on Friday night at the McDonough Center.

The Falcons (21-12) started quickly with a 25-13 win in the first set, and then defeated the Golden Eagles 25-20 and 25-22 to complete the sweep.

Fairmont State was led by 15 kills and 11 digs from Mackenzie Harrison. Julia Shemaitis added nine kills and 15 digs. Jess Furda handed out 29 assists and also had 12 digs. Megan Clerico provided 19 digs.

Charleston (25-13) hit -.015 in the match with 29 errors and 27 kills. Shiann White had nine kills and 12 digs to lead UC. Claire Lambert had 10 assists and 12 digs.

#1 Wheeling Jesuit 3, #5 West Liberty 0 | Final Stats
WHEELING, W.Va.
-- Top-seeded Wheeling Jesuit moved on to the finals of the MEC Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 win over West Liberty on Friday night.

The Cardinals (37-2) were convincing in the first set with a 25-11 win over the 'Toppers. West Liberty then fell behind early in the second set, but battled back and was within a point at 21-20 after a WJU hitting error. Haley KIndall got Wheeling Jesuit back on track with a kill, and a couple of errors from WLU led to the Cards coming away with the set, 25-20. In the third set with the score tied 8-8, Wheeling Jesuit won 12-straight points to seize control of the set and match to close out the Hilltoppers.

Lauran Graves had 11 kills, hit .500 and had a team-high seven blocks for WJU. Samantha Obringer had 10 kills. Bre Kramer contributed 16 digs to go with seven kills. Andrea Thobe notched 43 assists and Kayce Krucki had match-high 21 digs.

West Liberty (23-14) hit just .017 in the match. Sydney Scherer had five kills and Kailee Cunningham had 18 digs in the losing effort.
