DANIELS, W.Va. -- UVa-Wise sits at the top of a crowded leaderboard after the majority of play concluded on the first day of the Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Championship.

The Cavaliers shot 298 on the first day, a single shot better than Charleston and defending champion Shepherd. West Liberty is just three shots back with a 301. 

Alex Arnold carded the best round of the day firing a 70 (-2). Joey Cilone of West Liberty shot a 70, and five other players shot 73.

Two players did not complete the final hole of the day due to darkness. Their round will conclude tomorrow morning.
