Day 1: MEC Baseball Tournament Recap

Game 1: Shepherd 7, West Virginia Wesleyan 0 | Box Score

Bryan DiRosario pitched a complete-game shutout to lead top-seeded Shepherd to a 7-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Rams will now take on West Liberty tomorrow at 3 p.m., while the Bobcats will play W.Va. State at 11 a.m.

DiRosario (9-1) went all nine innings scattering eight hits and striking out three with a walk. Shepherd (37-10) was led offensively by Jacob Carney walked twice and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and and two runs scored at the top of the Ram lineup. Dom Wyshinski added three hits and Spencer Wolfe drove in a pair.

Nick Jones and Travis Renner each had two hits for the Bobcats (19-19). Chris Dunno (2-5) took the loss on the hill giving up six runs on 11 hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts. 

Game 2: Concord 13, West Virginia State 8 | Box Score
Concord scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to push its lead to 12-0, and then held off a late West Virginia State rally to defeat the Yellow Jackets, 13-8. The Mountain Lions advance to take on Notre Dame tomorrow at 7 p.m., while WVSU will take on West Virginia Wesleyan at 11 a.m.

The Mountain Lions (29-21) were aided by three WVSU errors that led to seven unearned runs in the game. Andrew Siegel went 3-for-5 in the game and scored three times, While Andy Szamski and T.J. Brockway each had a pair of hits and three RBI for CU. 

Chris Kelly (8-2) pitched 8.1 strong innings before giving up five runs in the bottom of the ninth and giving way to Reese Edwards to get the final two outs. Kelly gave up eight runs on eight hits.

Brandon Wright led WVSU (30-14) going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Trayvis Patterson added three hits and scored twice, and Cody Smith notched two RBI. Dustin Kincaid (4-1) took the loss going 3.2 innings giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits. Cameron Norris pitched well in relief allowing three unearned runs on five hits.  

Game 3: Notre Dame 4, West Liberty 1 | Box Score
Keifer Quick's two-run single in the third inning proved to be all that starter Zach Gresch would need as Notre Dame defeated West Liberty, 4-1. The Falcons advance to take on Concord at 7 p.m., while West Liberty will take on Shepherd at 3 p.m.

Gresch (7-2) went eight innings allowing just one run on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Phil Ramos pitched a clean ninth to pick up his fifth save of the season. Blake Miller added two hits for the Falcons (25-17), and Jalen Fields and Danny Beaver each provided an RBI. 

Tim Mirandy and Jon-Michael Brunner each had two hits for West Liberty (28-20). The Hilltoppers, though, stranded 10 runners in the game. Mark Smyth (6-3) took the loss going eight innings allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
