NASHPORT, Ohio -- Wilmington's strong second 18 holes propelled it to the Atlantic/East Regional Championship and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
Wilmington was the only team in the field to have two team rounds under 300 with 292 on Tuesday and concluding with a 296 on the final 18 to take the title. The Wildcats edged runner-up Indiana (Pa.) by five shots, Charleston by six shots and Le Moyne by eight. Those four teams all advance to the final site of competition from May 18-22 at Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C.
Individually, IUP's Kenneth Sames fired the best round of the tournament on the final day, a four-under 68, to claim medalist honors with a three-day score of 214 (-2). Sam Clark (Wilmington) finished a shot back. Gannon's Matt Barto and St. Thomas Aquinas' Niklas Koerner were the first two individuals from a non-qualfiying team at 223 to advance to the finals site.
