Mountain East Conference Player of the Year Brooklyn Waddell went 3-for-4 including a solo home run and Anna Eggleston pitched a three-hit shutout to lead top-seeded West Virginia Wesleyan to a 4-0 win over No. 8 Shepherd.
Rebekah Honce went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and Morgan Bruce added a solo shot to lead the Bobcat offense.
Courtney Clemons had two of Shepherd's three hits on the afternoon. Tara Hanson took the loss giving up four runs on 10 hits.
Game 2: #5 West Virginia State 2, #2 Wheeling Jesuit 0 | Final Stats
West Virginia State outlasted Wheeling Jesuit, 2-0, in a game delayed nearly three hours due to weather.
The Yellow Jackets took advantage of an error and pushed across two unearned runs in the third inning that stood up in the victory. Allyson Burgess scattered six hits and struck out three in a complete-game, shutout victory. The Cardinals managed to bring the game-winning run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Burgess was able to strand two and secure the win.
Sydney Kaplan went 1-for-3 and drove in the only two runs in the game for WVSU.
Ali Smith took the loss for WJU giving up two unearned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Game 3: #3 Charleston 5, #6 Fairmont State 0 | Final Stats
Courtney Fain fired a one-hitter to lead Charleston past Fairmont State, 5-0.
Fain struck out 12 and walked three in the complete-game, shutout victory. Cortney Norris hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and later added another RBI to help pace the Golden Eagle offense. Bethany Williams, Kelly Browning and Jenna Evans also added hits.
Rachel Bias took the loss giving up three runs on three hits. Alesha Jones pitched three innings of relief giving up one earned run, and Devin Williams gave up one hit in 2.2 innings of work.
Game 4: #2 Concord 2, #7 Notre Dame 1 | Final Stats
Second-seeded Concord scored two runs in the second inning and then held off Notre Dame late to claim a 2-1 victory over the Falcons in the MEC Tournament.
Alayna Furr helped CU break through in the second with a sacrifice fly that scored Lauren Lewis, and Kristen Rose later drove in Allie Reid to put the Mountain Lions up 2-0.
NDC appeared to get a run back in the fourth, but a runner missed third base on the way to home and was called out. The Falcons plated a run in the seventh on an RBI from Kelsey Coleman, but stranded two runners as the inning ended.
Katie Snodgress got the win pitching 5.1 innings and giving up no runs on two hits. Lacey McDougall came on in relief and got the save.
Ashley Hall took the loss giving up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
