BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Wheeling Jesuit's Kasey Frazier is the Mountain East Conference Player of the Year, while teammate Bridget Lynn is the league's Freshman of the Year, and Notre Dame's Colleen Groomes is the Coach of the Year, the league announced today.
In addition to the award winners, the league announced its All-MEC teams. Frazier and Lynn were first team selections, along with Elizabeth Frederick (Fairmont State), Kelli Garrett (Charleston), Becky Gossard (West Virginia Wesleyan) and Michiko Smith (Notre Dame).
Christi Bilas (Notre Dame), Kaitlyn Bliss (West Liberty), Kayla Linger (West Virginia Wesleyan), Lindsey Phillips (Urbana), Alex Smith (Concord) and Kenzi Turner (Charleston) were second team selections.
Earning All-MEC honorable mention were Sarah Adamowksi (West Liberty), Leah Baughman (Wheeling Jesuit), Kasey Caudill (Urbana), Raven Fatool (Glenville State), Samantha Knowlton (West Liberty), Brianna Stokes (Notre Dame), Courtney Tierney (Urbana) and Rachel Williamson (Notre Dame).
Frazier earns MEC Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season after posting a scoring average of 77.29 in the league's three select events used to determine all-conference honors. She was also medalist at the league's fall conference championship at Glade Springs Resort. Lynn averaged 82.29 in her freshman season for the Cardinals. Groomes, who was the league's Coach of the Year for the second-straight year, directed the Falcons to the MEC championship last fall.
The All-MEC teams, along with Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, are determined by scoring in select Mountain East Conference events. The MEC Coach of the Year is determined by a vote of the league's coaches.
