CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia State and Charleston, cross-town rivals and the top seeds in the MEC Women's Tennis Tournament, will play for the championship on Sunday after each team picked up 5-0 wins in the semifinals on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets defeated West Virginia Wesleyan, 5-0, and Charleston defeated West Liberty by the same score. The two teams will play on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Schoenbaum Tennis Courts for the championship. WVSU won the regular season meeting, 6-3, back on Oct. 6.
In the first semifinal, West Virginia State swept all three doubles points to start quickly ahead of the Bobcats. Kayla McKnight and Diana Cotoros closes the match out with wins in singles.
UC won all three doubles points as well, including at No. 2 where Jackie Bakos and Elise Edwards won in a tiebreaker. Bakos also won her match at No. 6 singles and Silvana Slusarciuc won at No. 5 to secure the win for the Golden Eagles.
