SALEM, Va. -- Unbeaten Adelphi smothered rival LIU Post in the first half and ran away with a 17-10 win on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Semifinals at Kerr Stadium.
The Panthers will put their perfect record on the line tomorrow against Lock Haven at 2 p.m. to determine the 2014 NCAA champion.
Jackie Jahelka scored four goals to lead the Panthers (21-0) on Saturday, and Danielle Jaycox, Devan Crimi and Alexa Froccaro each scored three times. Felicia Mills pulled in 12 of Adelphi’s 20 draw controls to help maintain possession and keep the ball away from LIU Post.
The AU defense limited the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer Jackie Sileo to just one goal and two assists on the afternoon. Samathan Losco, Stefani Vagelatos and Morgan Chiarenza each notched a pair of goals for LIU Post (18-2).
A goal by Losco put the Pioneers up early, but it was all Adelphi after that. With Mills controlling the draw, the Panthers reeled off nine of the next 11 goals to give them a 9-3 lead at the break. Adelphi had an 11-2 edge in draws and was even with LIU Post in turnovers, 10-10, in the first half.
The Panthers kept the pressure on early in the second half with goals from Crimi and Rachel O’Brien to start the scoring. Post got back-to-back goals from Sileo and Pierro to get to within six at 11-5 with 19:23 to go, but could do no better than trade goals with Adelphi for most of the rest of the way as the Panthers cruised to the 17-10 victory.
