FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Five players reached double figures to lead Fairmont State past West Virginia Wesleyan, 87-57, in the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament presented by GoMart on Tuesday night in Fairmont.
Hailey Garrett led the Falcons (18-9) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Garrett was 8-of-11 from the floor. Emily Lohr added 16 points, Makenzie White scored 13 and dished out a game-high nine assists, while Emily Puskarich came off the bench to add 12 points.
The Falcons advance to take on West Virginia State on Thursday night at 8:15 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.
West Virginia Wesleyan (2-25) was led by Brittany Williams' 16 points and eight rebounds.
(6) Urbana 102, (12) Shepherd 84 | Final Stats
URBANA, Ohio -- DeVonyea Johnson scored 25 points and Kate Francisco added 24 to lead Urbana to a 102-84 win over Shepherd in the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Tuesday night in Urbana.
Urbana (18-9) dished out 31 assists and shot 48 percent from the floor in the win. The Blue Knights advance to take on Charleston on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.
Shepherd (4-23) was paced by Mountain East Conference Freshman of the Year Cara Mason's 24 points, six assists and five rebounds. Gabby Flinchum added 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
(10) UVa-Wise 81, (7) Notre Dame 67 | Final Stats
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- UVa-Wise went on the road and led nearly wire-to-wire in an 81-67 win over Notre Dame College in the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Tuesday night.
All five starters reached double figures for the Cavs (10-17), led by Makenzie Cluesman's 21-point effort. Taylor Sandidge added a double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds to go with five assists. UVa-Wise advances to take on West Liberty at noon on Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center.
Martha Nagne's 23 points weren't enough for the Falcons (14-13) in the losing effort. Erin Engtinghe scored 12 for NDC and Courtney Clark added 10.
(8) Wheeling Jesuit 71, (9) Concord 60 | Final Stats
WHEELING, W.Va. -- Wheeling Jesuit opened the second half on a 15-5 run and then held off Concord late to defeat the Mountain Lions, 71-60, in the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Tuesday night in Wheeling
Leading by just two at the break, the Cardinals expanded their lead to as many as 11 with 12:09 to go. CU wouldn't go away, though, and eventually trimmed the lead to three at 57-54 with just under four minutes to play. WJU scored the next 10 points, including six from Jaila Bryant, to put the game out of reach.
Wheeling Jesuit (15-12) advances to take on Glenville State on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center. The Cardinals handed Glenville State a 77-74 loss back on Feb. 20.
Concord's Andrea Bertrand led all players with 28 points and 11 rebounds. CU finishes the season with a record of 8-21.
