BUCKHANNON, W.Va.
-- West Virginia Wesleyan survived Urbana's upset bid with two free throws from senior T.J. Thompson with one second left as the Bobcats got past the Blue Knights, 79-77, on Tuesday night in the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament presented by GoMart.

Urbana trailed by as many 17 points in the first half, but battled all the way back and take a second half lead at 65-62 with 7:48 to go. Danny Goins hit two free throws to tie the game at 77-77 with 10 seconds left, but Thompson was able to get to the line with just one second remaining and knocked both down for the WVWC victory.

West Virginia Wesleyan (20-11) advances to take on Fairmont State on Friday night at 8:15 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.

The Blue Knights (0-27) had 21 points from Danny Goins, and Josh Brown added 14 off the bench 

Brett Ervin paced the Bobcats with a game-high 17 points, and Alexsander Djordjevic added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

(6) Shepherd 86, Concord 68 | Final Stats
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.
-- Morgan McDonald scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Shepherd University to an 86-68 win over Concord in first round action of the MEC Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Butcher Center on Tuesday night. Shepherd hit the 20-win mark for the first time since the 1991-92 team went 23-10.

Concord's Cam Shannon had 20 points and Aaron Miller added 19 for the Mountain Lions. Terry Hopewell added 13 points.

Shepherd shot 50 percent (32-64) from the floor with a 34.8 percent (8-23) effort from three-point range. The Rams hit on 14-of-18 free throws (77.8 percent). 4.

Shepherd improves to 20-9, while Concord completes its season at 8-21. The Rams advance to the tournament quarterfinals on Friday. They will face third-seeded Glenville State at 2:15 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.

(7) Wheeling Jesuit 105, UVa-Wise 82 | Final Stats
WHEELING, W.Va. -- Wheeling Jesuit's trio of Justin Fritts, Eric Siefert and Andre Harris accounted for 82 points in a 105-82 win over UVa-Wise in the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Tuesday night.

Fritts led all players with 32 points and had seven assists, while Andre Harris and Eric Siefert each netted 25 points. The Cardinals (15-12) advances to take on Charleston on Friday afternoon at noon.

UVa-Wise senior Deon Boyce finished his career with 29 points and eight rebounds. Charles George added 18 for the Cavs. UVa-Wise finishes the season with a record 11-16.

(9) Notre Dame 97, West Virginia State 78 | Final Stats
INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Notre Dame College shot 52 percent from the field and rolled to a 97-78 road victory over West Virginia State in the first round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament.

Lawrence DeArmond went for 30 points and had six assists, and Geovonte Rose added 17 points and a season-best 21 rebounds for the Falcons (11-18). NDC advances to take on top-seeded West Liberty on Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center. Notre Dame defeated the Hilltoppers on Jan. 30.

Juan Johnson came off the bench to lead the team with 21 for the Yellow Jackets (13-14). Steve Wing scored 15 points and added 11 rebounds for WVSU.
