ATHENS, W.Va. -- Brian Novak was 22-of-29 passing for 390 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 13 Concord to a 51-14 win over Notre Dame College on Saturday at Callaghan Stadium.
Concord improved to 10-0 overall and 9-0 in the MEC and clinched at least a share of the conference championship. The Mountain Lions can win the conference title outright next week on the road at Shepherd. Notre Dame fell to 6-4 overall and 6-3 in the MEC.
The Mountain Lions had 622 yards of total offense on the day led by Novak. Receiver T.J. Smith had eight catches for 212 yards and three touchdowns. Calvinaugh Jones added 16 carries for 188 yards and a touchdown. Jermain Johnson led the team with six tackles (five solo) and broke up three passes.
NDC quarterback Ray Russ was 26-of-52 for 266 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. It was the first time this season that he's not thrown at least two touchdowns in a game. Emmanuel Smith had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to provide NDC's other score. George Berry had a game-high 13 tackles for the Falcons.
Urbana 35, West Virginia Wesleyan 17 | Final Stats
URBANA, Ohio -- Urbana rolled up 534 yards of total offense and Colby Speice had four first half touchdown passes as the Blue Knights defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 35-17 at UU Stadium.
With the win, Urbana moved its record to 3-7 overall and 2-7 in conference play. West Virginia Wesleyan fell to 4-7 overall and in the MEC.
Speice finished the game 19-of-37 for 306 yards with the four touchdown passes and no interceptions. David Hill had 92 yards rushing and Cedric Presley added 85 yards and a score. Joseph Saffold had three TD receptions.
D'Gary Wallace led the Blue Knights on defense with eight tackles (five solo) with two sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss.
WVWC quarterback Jeremy Musselman was 9-of-20 for 118 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Michael Anderson had 17 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown and also added 49 yards receiving. Mike Savage led the Bobcats on defense with nine tackles, including two for a loss and one sack.
West Liberty 35, UVa-Wise 20 | Final Stats
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- A 14-point third quarter helped West Liberty get past UVa-Wise, 35-20, on Saturday at West Family Stadium.
The win improves West Liberty's record to 6-4 overall and 6-3 in the MEC. UVa-Wise dropped to 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
Dakota Conwell tied a career-high with four touchdown passes to lead the 'Toppers. WLU also had 180 on 38 carries, led by Isiah Moody's 77 yards. Quinton Sifford and Alec Wood led the West Liberty defense with 10 tackles each. Sifford had three tackles for a loss and a sack, while Wood was credited with three pass break-ups.
UVa-Wise quarterback Jeremy Eubank completed 16-of-30 passes for 211 yards while freshman Carlton Griffith notched his third straight 100-yard rushing game with 32 carries for 105 yards. Juwaine Massenburg led all receivers with seven catches for 99 yards. Zack Blair had seven solo tackles and a tackle for a loss for the Cavs.
#17/21 Shepherd 24, West Virginia State 10 | Final Stats
INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Shepherd quarterback Jeff Ziemba completed 15-of-29 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore running back Jabre Lolley and junior running back Allen Cross each rushed for over 100 yards to lead Shepherd University to a 24-10 win over West Virginia State in MEC football action at West Virginia State on Saturday.
Shepherd improved to 8-1 overall and in the MEC and will play for a share of the conference title next week at home against Concord. West Virginia State dropped to 2-8 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
The Rams finished with 544 yards of total offense, 317 of which came on the ground. SU also held the Yellow Jackets to just 23 rushing yards. Shepherd had the ball for over 38 minutes in the game.
DeOntre Johnson had eight tackles and had two broken up passes.
Matt Kinnick connected on 21-of-40 passes with 239 yards with a touchdown to lead WVSU. Shanin Bennefield had five catches for 107 yards. Trent Williamson had 10 tackles for the Yellow Jackets.
Charleston 42, Fairmont State 17 | Final Stats
FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Charleston rushed for over 300 yards on its way to a 42-17 victory over Fairmont State on Saturday at Duvall-Rosier Field.
The Golden Eagles, which entered the week ranked 10th in the Atlantic Region, improved to 7-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play. Fairmont State fell to 3-6 both overall and in the MEC.
Marvin Elam had 13 carries for 101 yards and had two of UC's five rushing touchdowns. Jermaine Kelly had 63 yards rushing and a touchdown and was 6-of-12 passing for 70 yards and another score. Justin Avery led the defensive effort with 12 tackles (11 solo) with two tackles for a loss and one sack.
Quarterback Cody Stevenson got the start and was 21-of-28 for 254 yards with one touchdown. Fabian Guerra had seven catches for 96 yards and Austin White had 21 carries for 63 yards. Marcus Porter had 12 tackles (eight solo) for the Falcons on defense.
Walsh 31, Glenville State 23 | Final Stats
CANTON, Ohio -- Two fourth quarter interceptions doomed Glenville State in a 31-23 non-conference loss to Walsh.
Tevin Drake had 25 carries for 126 yards on the ground to lead the Pioneers (4-6). Dante Roberts stepped in at quarterback for the injured Sean Steele and was 20-of-39 for 241 yards with two touchdowns but three interceptions. Dante Absher was on the receiving end of both of Roberts' TD tosses.
Hunter McWhorter led GSC with eight tackles, and DeMarcus Davis and Milton Gilchrist each had interceptions.
Glenville State had more yards of total offense (381-348) and more first downs (20-17) than the Cavaliers.
Aaron Male led Walsh with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
