UC, WJU Win In Semis

#3 Wheeling Jesuit 2, #2 Notre Dame 0 | Final Stats
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio
-- Wheeling Jesuit scored a pair of first half goals and held off Notre Dame to claim a 2-0 road win over Notre Dame in the MEC Tournament semifinals at Normandy Field.

The Cardinals (9-6-2) struck first in the 21st minute as Daniel Undreiner headed in a cross from Sean Murphy. WJU tacked on another before the break on a Luke Roan goal on a feed from Aitor De Heredia.

Notre Dame (10-5-2) managed to put seven shots on frame, but Cody Thompson was up to the task making seven saves for Wheeling Jesuit. The Falcons also had a 12-4 edge in corner kicks but could not break through.

WJU advances to take on Charleston for the MEC Tournament championship. The two teams met twice this season with UC winning both times.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.
-- Top-ranked and top-seeded Charleston overcame rainy and windy conditions and haded West Virginia Wesleyan a 2-0 defeat at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex. 

UC (17-0-1) advances to take on Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Schoenbaum Field.

The Golden Eagles controlled possession early on, and Conor Branson put UC on the board with his ninth goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 at halftime, and as West Virginia Wesleyan pressed forward trying to find the equalizer late in the second half, Will Roberts took a feed from Branson that he put in the back of the net with under five minutes remaining to seal the game for the Golden Eagles.

Charleston out-shot WVWC 29-5 in the game. West Virginia Wesleyan (8-7-3) keeper Felipe Vial made 10 saves on the night to help give the Bobcats a chance late in the game.
