Concord Claims 2014 MEC Men's Golf Championship

Concord University led wire-to-wire to win the 2014 Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Championship on Wednesday at Longaberger Golf Club.

The Mountain Lions succesfully defended the title they claimed a year ago after shooting 310 on the final day. Several teams made strong charges on the final day, but the Mountain Lions had built a big enough lead to hold off their competitors and won by 14 shots after posting a three-day total of 937.

West Liberty finished second with a score of 951, followed by Shepherd (955) and Charleston (956). The Golden Eagles had the lowest score of the tournament on the final day shooting 298. 

Notre Dame finished fifth (969), Fairmont State was sixth (971), West Virginia Wesleyan was seventh (977) and Wheeling Jesuit was eighth (983). Urbana (993), UVa-Wise (1,013), Glenville State (1,058) and West Virginia State (1,152) rounded out the field.

WLU's Matt Iceton fired a 72 on the final day to post a score of 221, one shot better than Concord's Thomas Frazier. Sam Berry finished third (226), Wheeling Jesuit's Eric Dargis was fourth (227) and West Liberty's Cory Hoshor (233) rounded out the top five.
