Notes: This year’s game is being played on Thursday night and is being billed as the Kanawha Classic ... UC held WVSU to just 35 yards rushing in last year’s matchup ... the Golden Eagles have won eight of the last nine meetings ... UC is giving up 133.2 yards per game on the ground, and WVSU is allowing 150.8 ... the Golden Eagles will be trying to snap a two-game losing streak ... WVSU has had three games decided by five points or less and is 2-1 in those games.

West Liberty (3-3, 3-2) at Urbana (1-5, 1-5), Noon
Last Year: Urbana won 32-13
Notes: Urbana shutout West Liberty in the second half of last season’s game to claim a 32-13 win ... West Liberty leads the all-time series 3-1 ... Urbana has won 11 of its last 12 games on Homecoming ... WLU’s 39 points last week were its most in the last two seasons ... UU has used three different starting quarterbacks this season ... the Blue Knights are fourth in the league in passing.
Glenville State (2-4, 2-4) at UVa-Wise (0-6, 0-5), 1 p.m.
Last Year: Glenville State won 49-7
Notes: Rahmann Lee rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns in last seasons’ matchup ... GSC quarterbacks were 15-of-20 for 218 yards and three scores ... UVa-Wise managed just eight yards rushing in last year’s matchup ... the Cavs have one of the league’s top defensive players in Zack Blair who leads the conference in tackles for a loss (15) ... the Cavs are third in the league in time of possession holding the ball for 31:52 per game.
#8/9 Shepherd (6-0, 6-0) at Notre Dame College (4-2, 4-1), 1 p.m.
Last Year: Shepherd won 57-17
Notes: The Rams had a season-high 57 points in last year’s meeting ... SU held Ray Russ to just 175 yards passing ... one of NDC’s score came defensively, and C.J. Davis provided a punt return for a TD for the Rams ... this year’s game features the league’s top passing offense against the national leader in passing defense ... NDC is also second in the MEC in total offense.
#20/21 Concord (6-0, 5-0) at West Virginia Wesleyan (3-3, 3-3), 1 p.m.
Last Year: Concord won 49-21
Notes: CU raced out to a 35-0 lead at the half on its way to the lopsided win ... the Mountain Lions average a league-best 222 rushing yards per game, while WVWC is one of only two teams in the league to surrender over 200 yards on the ground per game ... the Bobcats are third in the league in net punting ... CU (+11) and WVWC (+3) are two of the three teams to have positive figures in turnover margin in 2014.
News & Notes
• This will mark the second consecutive week that two teams from the league are nationally ranked in both major polls (AFCA/d2football.com) with Shepherd (8th/9th) and Concord (21st/20th) in the top 25.
• Notre Dame quarterback Ray Russ became the first MEC quarterback to throw for over 500 yards in a game and established a new MEC record with 548 yards passing last week against Lake Erie College. It was nearly more than 100 yards than the previous mark set last year by D.J. Mendenhall (450 vs. Findlay).
• Five different MEC quarterbacks have two 300+ yard passing games this season: Cooper Hibbs (FSU), Jeremy Musselman (WVWC), Brian Novak (CU), Ray Russ (NDC) and Sean Steele (GSC).
• Concord’s Calvinaugh Jones is the only player in the league to rush for 100 yards in every game this year.
• Notre Dame receiver Mitchel Shegos has a league-best four 100-yard receiving games this season.
• Concord’s Andy Ellington matched his own MEC record with a 52-yard field goal last week against Urbana. He is the only MEC player to have kicked a field goal of longer than 50 yards.
• SU quarterback Jeff Ziemba has yet to throw an interception in 128 attempts -- an MEC record. The Rams are one of just three teams not to throw an interception this season.
• Shepherd leads the country in several defensive categories: first downs allowed, rush defense, pass defense and total defense.
• SU has allowed more than 10 points in just two of its six games this season and has two shutouts. The Rams have five shutouts since the start of the 2013 season.
• Concord is one of only five teams in NCAA Division II to average more than 50 points a game this season.
• CU leads the country with 13 interceptions this season.
• The Mountain Lions have had over 500 yards of total offense in all but one game this season.
• Concord has at least two sacks in every game this year. The Mountain Lions had a season-high six last week against Urbana.
• After picking up six interceptions in the first two games, Notre Dame has just one in the last four.
• NDC’s Derrick Bavol’s 3.5 sacks last week against Lake Erie are the most by a player in the MEC this season.
• After rushing for 524 yards in the first four games, UC’s Marvin Elam has been limited to just 87 in the last two. He has also been kept out of the end zone in each of the last two contests.
• Charleston is just 9-of-27 (33 percent) on third down in the last two games.
• The Golden Eagles are ranked second in the league in scoring defense at 21.3 points per game.
• WVWC’s Tyler Bolen started and threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns last week as the Bobcats defeated West Virginia State, 25-22. Bolen engineered the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter going 5-for-5 passing.
• Zach Schademan is second in the MEC with seven touchdown receptions for the Bobcats.
• The 22 points allowed last week to WVSU was the second-fewest given up by the Bobcats this season (seven vs. UVa-Wise in week two is the fewest).
• Glenville State’s Sean Steele has thrown for more than 400 yards and nearly twice as many touchdowns as he did all of last season.
• Teams have thrown for over 300 yards in four of six games against the Pioneers.
• Glenville State’s Rahmann Lee is averaging 24.5 “touches” (carries + receptions) per game for the Pioneers.
• Each of Glenville State’s last five games have been decided by four points or less. The Pioneers are 2-3 in those games.
• Fairmont State wide receiver Fabian Guerra missed one game due to injury this year, but still is second just second in the league in receiving yards. He is the only receiver to average over 100 yards per game (113.4) and also leads the conference with 8.6 catches per game.
• Guerra made national headlines with his acrobatic one-handed catch against Concord on Oct. 4. The clip went viral on social media and was aired on ESPN’s SportsCenter and the NFL Network’s show “Total Access.”
• FSU has been plagued by turnovers this season ranking -9 in turnover margin. The Falcons gave up three turnovers that helped West Liberty to 20 points last week.
• Teams are out-scoring West Virginia State 81-24 in the first half this season.
• WVSU’s Tevin Brown is averaging 113 yards rushing in his last two games.
• The Yellow Jackets have held teams to under 100 yards rushing in half of their games this season.
• WVSU’s Matt Kinnick has thrown four touchdowns against two interceptions in his last two games.
• UU’s D’Gary Wallace is the only player in the league to average more than 10 total tackles per game with 10.8. He also leads the conference in total solo tackles with 36.
• Urbana has nearly three times as many passing yards (1,634) than rushing yards (589) this year.
• Urbana has had more turnovers than its opponent in four of six games this year.
• UVa-Wise has managed just 25 points in the last three games and have not yet scored over 20 points in a game this year.
• UVa-Wise’s Zack Blair leads the Mountain East Conference with 15.0 tackles for a loss (2.50 per game).
• Cavs punter Trent Martin is second in the league with 10 punts inside opponents’ 20-yard line.
